What looks like vandalism…isn’t

By LeslieKrowchenko SPIRIT correspondent Damage at Don Guanella Village was not the vandalism originally suspected, but the result of police training, according to Marple Chief Tom Murray. The destruction was of concern to members of Save Marple Greenspace, who showed photos of the broken windows to Marple commissioners during their June meeting. The following day, however, Murray confirmed the smashed panes were caused by department training. The home, on the campus of Crozer-Chester Medical Center (CCMC), is a former Crozer family residence. CCMC representatives appeared before Council in December with a proposal for the 2.5-acre lot. Family Dollar, currently in the Upland Shopping Center, has expressed a desire to expand its 5,000-square foot location to a 9,200-square foot freestanding store and the medical center indicated a willingness to sell the parcel. Ridley Looking To Nudge Taxes For Schools

The total proposed real estate millage rate of 40.11, or $4.02 for every $100 of assessed property value, is needed to meet general fund expenditures of $101,742,061, which is an increase in expenses of $3,586,806 over the 2015-2016 budget. The 213.3-acre parcel, bordered by Sproul and Reed roads, is owned by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which has an agreement of sale with Goodman Properties. The Jenkintown-based company owns and manages 175 commercial properties in Chester, Glenolden, Media and Springfield, Bucks, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties and Indiana and New Jersey.
