Brookhaven residents lined the streets last Saturday afternoon to watch the borough’s annual holiday parade, which for locals, marks the official beginning of the Christmas season.

Dedicated to the Girl and Boy Scouts, the parade featured four string bands — Hegeman, Greater Overbrook, Broomall, and Aqua; the Sun Valley High School Marching Band, antique cars, fire apparatus, police vehicles, clubs, organizations, dance schools, scouts, local businesses, Brookhaven Town Watch, Sun Valley Marine Corps JRROTC, and of course, Santa Claus.

The parade is organized each year by a committee that includes chairman and Brookhaven Councilman Vawn Donaway, Stephanie Donaway, Linda Riffert, Ginny McKee, Janet Chism and Brooke Henderson.

“It was a great day and we are so thankful that the rain held off,” said Donaway. “We appreciate everyone who participated in the parade and hope that our residents had a good time.”
