Chester City held its second annual Overtown Festival as part of its city revitalization campaign. Vendors lined the sidewalk along Avenue of the States from Fourth to Seventh streets, hoping to attract visitors to enjoy food, face painting and art from morning to evening.
“Thank you so much for coming,” said Mayor John Linder. “Enjoy yourselves and welcome!”
One of the later highlights was the musical and dance entertainment. An acappella group called, Total Kontrol, entertained the crowd with their harmonies. The five young men have been singing together for only three months, but impressed the audience with their rendition of If I Ever Fall in Love Again, originally sung by Philadelphia-born Boyz-to-Men.
“If you guys need me for back up, I have one note,” joked Linder, “just one note!”
“The Overtown Festival is about bringing the community together,” cheered Cory Long, emcee for the event. “This is some of Chester’s homegrown up and coming talent. A lot of times we hear negative things about our men from Chester but these are a group of positive young men!” Long beamed.
The Overtown Festival was organized by the Chester Business Association.
