ore than 12,000 people flocked to the Chester Riverfront Ramble this past weekend to partake in a variety of foods, purchase novelty goods and enjoy star-studded entertainment that headlined hit R&B singers Johnny Gill and Evelyn “Champagne” King.

From chicken wings, shrimp, fried fish and barbecue to cotton candy, water ice, pretzels and a variety of beverages, not to mention nighttime fireworks in the sky, the day-long Ramble had it all.

Hosted annually by the City of Chester, the Riverfront Ramble began seven years ago with just about 15 vendors, organizers said, as part of a tourism initiative that encouraged entertainment and activities among several communities along the banks of the Delaware River from Tinicum to Marcus Hook. Chester City officials now produce the event on their waterfront independently.

Saturday’s event drew 60 vendors, which included businesses selling garden flags, jewelry, pocketbooks, exotic juices, and much more. Children delighted in train rides, moon bounces, face painting and free giveaways.
