Marcus Hook residents Dominic DiGiacomo, 27, and Nina Bates, 25, of the unit block of West 8th St. were arrested in a drug sting operation July 3rd; just one day after they were married by Borough Mayor Jay Schiliro.

According to Marcus Hook Police Sgt. Phil Liberatore, 140 bags of heroin were confiscated having an estimated street value of $1,500. Liberatore said the bust was the result of a month’s long investigation. DiGiacomo and Bates were charged with possession and intent to distribute heroin.

“We were monitoring traffic in and out of that house for months,” said Liberatore. “A search warrant was obtained and the result was the confiscation.”

Schiliro said the afternoon before the bust he had performed a wedding for a couple in Lower Chichester Township. On his way home, he ran into DiGiacomo who asked Schiliro when he’d be available to marry DiGiacomo and his fiancée, Bates.

“I told him since I was in my suit, we could do the ceremony right then,” said Schiliro. “So, I performed the wedding. When I saw Dominic the next day, right after the bust, we both mentioned the wedding.”

So, DiGiacomo and Bates spent their honeymoon in a Delaware County prison…
