Businesses and buyers beware of phony money

Counterfeit bills are cropping up around the area and the Secret Service advises businesses and consumers to be aware. Many stores are not accepting higher denomination bills but federal officials say even a $5 bill can be counterfeited to look like a higher denomination.

New bridge replaces Booze Mountain near Chester High

For many years the banks of Chester Creek near Penn Bridge were hosts for what appeared to be a mountain of beer, soda and liquor bottles along with other debris. Last summer, after a Spirit investigation prompted action by city officials, the owners of the New Chester Deli spent money cleaning up the site adjacent to the store. PennDOT plans to close Penn Bridge to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for much-needed repairs but city officials said access to Chester High School can’t be denied for hundreds of students.
